John Deere 2640 Field of Dreams Diecast Guide
The John Deere 2640 pulled Ray Kinsella's plow across the cornfield in the 1989 film Field of Dreams, filmed in Dyersville, Iowa. ERTL first commemorated the tractor with a 1990 special edition, and reissued it decades later after Major League Baseball began playing games at the movie's real ballfield site in 2021, 2022, and 2026.
1990 original vs. modern reissue
ERTL has produced this nameplate in two distinct editions, released decades apart, tied to the same film and the same Dyersville ballfield.
The 1990 original, stock #516DA, carries "Field of Dreams Dyersville Iowa 1990 Special Edition" cast directly into the tractor's side rather than printed as a decal. It shipped without any baseball accessory and went out of production long ago, so it now trades solely on the secondary market.
The current reissue, stock #45899 (also listed as LP84514), prints the Field of Dreams logo on the tractor body instead of casting it, includes a companion baseball, and remains in active retail production, sold new through John Deere's own store and other retailers.
ERTL also produced a Field of Dreams promotional coin bank shaped like an antique delivery van. Liberty Classics, distributed by SpecCast, issued a die-cast Lockheed Vega 5B airplane bank under the same license, stock #35033.
