John Deere 4020 Diecast Tractor Guide

The John Deere 4020, built 1963 to 1972, was part of the New Generation line and one of the first row-crop tractors to offer the Power Shift transmission. ERTL has reissued it repeatedly as a die-cast collectible, most notably in the 1:16 Precision Classics series.

Every John Deere 4020 replica

ERTL's Precision Classics line has reissued the 4020 in three configurations: narrow-front row crop, wide-front with Power Shift transmission, and fitted with a mounted 237 corn picker. All three are 1/16 scale die-cast.

The narrow-front row-crop version, released in 1992, uses the tricycle front end favored for cultivating row crops and includes a three-point hitch. ERTL's rendering captures the New Generation styling of the full-size tractor.

The wide-front version, released in 1993, is built around the 4020's Power Shift transmission, which let operators change gears on the go under load. The die-cast model details the heavier wide-front pedestal, cast rims, and operator station that came with that configuration.

The corn-picker version, released in 1999, mounts a 237 two-row corn picker at the front of the tractor. The picker feeds harvested ears to a wagon through a blower spout, recreating a harvest rig once common on Midwest corn farms before the combine replaced it.
